To this day, Nimble is second only to Mad Elf in the anticipation it generates. Two great beer towns, and they both loved Nimble! After that, there was no turning back. Sneak peeks of Nimble Giant first landed at Rochester Beer Week and Philly Beer Week. It’s an intensely tropical hop and helped us hit those vibrant notes of mango and pineapple. People started stopping our brewmaster out in public and raving about the Scratch batches.Īfter about half a dozen small test batches, we hit upon the finishing touch with the addition of Azacca hops. When we started dry-hopping with Mosaic and Simcoe together, we knew we were onto something. We loved our earliest trials with fruity and complex Mosaic hops. Not surprisingly, Nimble came up through our small-batch Scratch System. That’s why it scores an ‘Outstanding’ on BeerAdvocate and consistently hits the top 10 trending beers on Untappd. We taste: tropical fruit, pine sap and honeysuckle.Ĭlocking in at 9% ABV, Nimble Giant is a big beer, but it goes down easy. Change is happening faster and the larger the organization (in most cases) the longer it takes and the harder it becomes to adapt to change. The path to Nimble Giant starts in the hop fields with Simcoe’s notes of creamsicle and mango, Mosaic’s honeysuckle and grapefruit, and Azacca’s intense pineapple.Īnd this deep orange Double IPA is balanced by a backbone of Pilsner and Vienna malts. So what is the future going to look like? That’s a good question and it’s certainly not easy to predict the answer but we do know what’s right in front of us. I discuss all of these ideas and more in the video below. How big can an organization realistically get and how scalable and manageable can that growth be? One option is for organizations to start breaking off into smaller pieces instead of putting more pieces together to form a giant mass. Larger organizations split into more manageable pieces This trend will continue until larger organizations keep getting displaced or they attempt to acquire their smaller counterparts. Look at Box, Netflix, Uber, Square, and many others which are challenging established organizations and industries. We have seen amazing disruption from smaller but rapidly rising organizations. Smaller organizations replace larger ones This is certainly possible for some companies. Organizations get so profitable, have so many assets and customers, and have so much money that nothing short of a world apocalypse can bring them down. I see three scenarios which can play out: Why are organizations focusing on things they know will make them slower and more complex when they know they need to be more nimble and adaptable? The analogy I like to use is trying to lose weight by eating more calories a day an impossible task. In order to remain competitive organizations must be nimble, adaptable, and agile yet by focusing on growth they make themselves more complex and slower so therein lies the problem. On the one hand they realize that the rate of change around the world of work (and the world in general) is increasing and on the other hand they are focusing on growth. There’s an interesting paradox that organizations are faced with.
